Assignment 2 Proposal
For assignment 2 I plan on taking ads and create parodies of them.
I chose this idea because I dislike ads and often make fun of them.
The images I plan on using are ads and products, and will not violate copyright law by the fair use rule. Seeing ad busters and all of the Youtube ad parodies has inspired my thoughts for this assignment.

Copyrights & Arts
All forms of media fall under three categories: 1)freeware, 2)copyright protected, and 3)public Domain. Freeware is usual copyrighted but free. You can pay to use a copyright protected material as long as you get the permission to use them. Public domain materials are not copyrighted and are free. There are ways to use copyrighted materials without all the trouble of fee and permission: copyrights don't last forever and can become public domain or if you can refer to the fair use doctrine to see if you can avoid paying. There are still restrictions even after paying for copyright material. You must use the material as is and cannot change it without the artist permission. The consequences to misusing copyrighted material can cost you more time and money than if you were to pay for it.

Assignment 1: Psychological Self-Portrait
This is my final version of the self-portrait. The source images for my self-portrait were random things from around my house that are me. I probably took around 100 images total, but ended up only using about 15 of them. Creating the piece was fun for me because I just started randomly putting images together until it started to look good.
When I was making it I was not thinking about a deeper meaning, or any meaning at all, just stuff I like all in one image. When I was finished with the self-portrait, I realized the meaning behind this piece is my inner-child. Where the Wild Things are was one of my favorite books as a kid, but also represents the wild thing who likes to have fun inside of me. I've always enjoyed building with Legos and the idea of a world made of Legos would be awesome. I'm addicted to Mountain Dew. The tractor and chicken are in the piece because we have small farm in our (small) backyard with 11 chickens. I added Doofenshmirtz and Perry the platypus because even though phineas and ferb is a kid's show, it's funny and I watch it with my younger brothers often. The background was taken by the river behind my neighborhood.

George Rush ~ Darker with the Day
The exhibition Darker with the Day was created recently by George Rush.
The exhibition is displayed as four decorated walls with one painting one each wall and a painting facing the entrance. The paintings are all gray scale consisting of simple textures of a table and chairs with several objects on the table. There is also two paintings of a window and curtains, each an inverted image of the other. The four paintings on the four walls are arranged in a square so that the viewer appears to be in a room of a house or cabin.
I think the exhibition is meant to portray depression, sadness, and solitude. when comparing the painting to one another it seems that the paintings are 3 different views on the same scene, possibly three different peoples view. When I look at the paintings, I see dark objects in a low light setting. It might be interpreted as the day in the life of someone suffering from depression and isolation. It brings up the common association of dark colors with sadness and depression. This could be a response to a personal experience. It is an expression of one's self.
I personally do not feel any emotions from the exhibition. I does not mean anything to me, but then again I have no information on the exhibition besides the name. It does not affect my life and it does not change my view on the world.
My three questions for George Rush are:
1) What was your thought process behind the art?
2) What is the exhibition supposed to represent?
3) Why did you create this exhibition?

Christiane Paul Digital Art
The three artists I picked from the reading were
1) Nancy Burson for being a pioneer in the field of computer-generated composite photos and creating morphed images for several celebrity faces;
2) William Latham who developed a program that let users to create three-dimensional objects using fractals and spiral mutations; and
3) Jochem Hendricks who tracked eye movement and translated it into drawings.
